Hardline was formed when brothers Johnny (vocals) and Joey (guitar) Gioeli teamed up with Journey/Bad English guitarist Neal Schon. The original plan was for Neal to produce Hardline, but as he was having so much fun that he decided to join the band.

They immediately added established musicians Todd Jensen (David Lee Roth, Alice Cooper) on bass and Deen Castronovo (also coming from Bad English) on drums to the mix and the result was magnificent. They went on to record their debut album “Double Eclipse” for MCA in 1992 and then went on the tour circuit with such heavy hitters as Van Halen and Mr. Big.

While Neal re-started his adventure with Journey in 1995 (again together with Deen Castronovo), years later Johnny and his brother Joey were ready to give it another go with Hardline after the call of Frontiers Records, with an all new line-up featuring famed drummer Bob Rock (Nelson, Vinnie Vincent’s Invasion), lead guitarist Josh Ramos (The Storm, Two Fires), bassist Chris Maloney and keyboard player Michael T. Ross (Accomplice) and all new material. Of course the awesome result is Hardline “II” which was produced by veteran studio man Bob Burch. The album shows a new maturity and edge for Hardline combining powerful and immeditely recognizable hooks coming from the classic hard rock tradition of Whitesnake, Van Halen and – of course – Hardline with all new elements and sounds. The album also includes the song "This Gift" written and performed with Neal Schon as special guest on guitar.

Hardline's return on the scene was surely THE event in the melodic hard rock scene during 2002. The record "II" has been hailed by the fans and critics as one of the best albums of the year and as well the live appearance made by the band at the GODS Festival 2002 was one of the most important and exciting live performances of the past few years. With just a few rehearsals, the band sounded tight and with a heavy-hitting, in-your-face sound kept high the interest of the tired crowd (the band started playing at 1 AM after 8 bands performing before them!), playing almost all the tracks from the mighty debut album: "Double Eclipse" and giving some good examples of what was to come on "II". The band featured nine people on stage featuring three backing singers - one male, two female (one of which was Gudrun Laos, singer of the band LAOS who released the album "We Want It" in the early 90's) - who certainly helped to fill out the sound. Singer Johnny Gioeli was in top form and his voice sounded as strong as ever. Guitarist Josh Ramos sat perfectly in Neal Schon's pants and made old and new classics his own. An amazing performance which captures a great band in its perfect live environment. The CD version includes 3 bonus studio tracks originally written for "II".
